At a recent meeting I had the pleasure of discussing this subject with an aspiring pilot. He found the overwhelming selections intimidating.
Maybe we could help by providing some of our favorites. Please provide the name of the 'author' on the apps to sort out the copycats..
I'll start with two of mine:
RadarScope app for iPad or android by Base Velocity, LLC
This is for serious study of many radar products. Selecting "Base Reflectivity" is what usually is seen on TV weather segments. Remember that when minimum returns are out there, they switch to maximum gain which creates a multicolor blob with a lot of red which is rather shocking at first. You can select any radar site and create a list of favorites. Usually it is very quick to paint and looping is handy. The best feature is storm tracks with the tail pointing the direction of any building cells. Selecting the 'bubble' gives more pertinent info.

This is good for forecasting and updated often. I have found it accurate after using it for many years..(well it is a weather forecast after all). It is a weather.gov product with many custom settings. I use it often and this info is "Point Forecast: 3 Miles W Mount Vernon, IN" good for my location.
There are many, many others and there are dozens among my favorites..but then, I am a 'weather nut'. Be glad to discuss this if wanted. Earl
